Hong Kong high speed train - Hong Kong A La Carte

10 September 2018

On 23 September 2018, a new train station will open in Hong Kong. The Hong Kong section of the Express Rail Link will run from West Kowloon Station to Shenzhen, where it will connect with the Mainland Section.

The Hong Kong route length will approximately be 26 kilometers where trains will run at 200Km/h. The journeys between Hong Kong and Futian, Shenzhen will take 14 minutes, between Hong Kong and Shenzhen North, 23 minutes and between Hong Kong and Guangzhou South, 48 minutes. The speed in the Mainland could reach up to 350km/h.

Although enforcing China national law on Hong Kong territory, immigration, custom and quarantine to Mainland China will take place in Hong Kong. This is possibly a good thing for passengers who will experience a better and more confortable border crossing than in the Mainland, but not so good news to Hong Kongers who might perceive this as a way for China to gain more control in Hong Kong.

The trains can transport 579 people and feature a sleek and stylish interior design to make the journeys convenient and confortable to all passengers. The compartments located at either end of the train provide 68 seats. Each chair has a reading light, individual audio and electrical sockets, adjustable backrest, seat table, magazine holder, footrest and hanging hook. The six compartments located in the middle of the train provide 511 seats. Video screens will be available to provide passengers with entertainment and train information.

This new rail line will improve and increase Hong Kong’s connectivity to China, making it easier and faster to travel to major Mainland cities. It should also help Hong Kong develop as a prime tourist destination and become the starting point of journeys to China: Shanghai will be 8 hours away and Beijing, 9 hours away.

Tickets went on sale today through online platforms, a telephone hotline (852 2120 0888) and counters at the West Kowloon terminal, get ready!
