Spooky story alert

Like most old buildings, Sai Ying Pun Old Mental Hospital comes with its own fair share of spooky ghost stories. Constructed in 1892, it was originally used as a living quarter for nurses until World War II, and then converted into a psychiatric hospital until 1961. Unoccupied for the next decade, the Hong Kong government decided to renovate it in the 90s and to turn it into a community center where numerous charity events are now held. It is said that occupying Japanese forces once used the building for executions and if you wander around at night, you can hear and see the victims roaming the corridors.
Now a graded building, the old Mental Hospital is part of Hong Kong’s oldest heritage.
If you would like to escape the Hong Kong bustle, take a walk and head to King George V Memorial Park on Hospital Road, or walk along Easter Street and head towards Sun Yat Sen Memorial Park which offers the best spot for a picturesque sunset walk by the harbor.
