Wong Tai Sin Temple
If you want to take part in the Chinese New Year celebrations, you must go to Wong Tai Sin temple.
It is Hong Kong’s most famous and traditional temple and probably one of the largest. Located in Wong Tai Sin in Kowloon, the temple is dedicated to Hong Kong’s three main religions: Taoism, Confucianism, and Buddhism. Besides this unusual practice of mixing religions, there are two other features that make the temple unique; it is classified as a Grade 1 historic building and allowed to host Taoist wedding ceremonies and issue marriage certificates.
On Lunar New Year’s Eve gates open at 9 pm and thousands of worshippers queue to be the first to lay their offerings of incense at the Main Altar before midnight. It is believed that the earlier the offering is made the greater one’s fortune will be in the coming year.
