Hong Kong Ghost Villages
Hong Kong is very often known for its abundant sky scrappers, its numerous islands and its colonial past. It however offers much more than this. From hidden beauties to breathless natural spots, Hong Kong is also home to a fascinating History and amazing locations.
Although abandoned by (almost all) their villagers, touring ghost villages is definitely an amazing adventure, as they are remnants of another era. Cows graze in near by field and nature is slowly taking over as trees invade houses where human activities have become barely detectable.
This return to nature is very enigmatic; a glimpse inside the houses shows that furniture and decoration have not been removed and left “as is” before their inhabitants left. It is a great occasion to not only discover village life like it was in the old days, but also see the startling contrast with neighbour modern China on the opposite side.
One person still lives in one of these villages which was once home to 160 inhabitants, and our guides are fortunate to know him. He shares the village’s story in perfect English, an authentic testimony of Hong Kong’s past. But why is he still there, you may ask?
