Hong Kong national day
Celebrated on 1 July, this day commemorates the territory’s handover from Britain to China in 1997. It was then agreed that the transition would spread over the next 50 years, thus the creation of a Special Administrative Region (SAR) to help manage the change. This date is not to be confused with China national day which is also celebrated in Hong Kong on 1 October.
Whichever you decide to celebrate, numerous festivities will take place such as concerts, cultural performances, fireworks and flag-raising ceremonies. If you like history as well as celebrations, our team of professional guides will gladly take you on a private tour that will feature the best of this year’s 21st anniversary.
